Mt.Himlung is situated at the northern part of Nepal in Manang district. Mt Himlung standing tall at the height of 7,126m lies inside the beautiful Manaslu region between the border of Nepal and Tibet Which falls around 140 to 150 kilometre from the capital city Kathmandu. It is regarded as of the most beautiful trekking destinations of Nepal. Nepal surrounded by mountains and known as the land of Himalayas got more than 1000s of peaks. Nepal has 1,310 peaks above 6000m and 414 peaks are already open for climbing out of 414 peaks there are only 72 peaks which are of 7000m and are climbable. These peaks are limited for climbing. Most of the 7000 m peaks are more challenging and technical which requires a high level of commitment and dedication with mountaineer experience. Mountain climbing over 7000m requires years of training under guidance and experience costing you a lot of money. Detailed Itinerary

Our team members will receive you from the airport and take you to the standard Hotel at Thamel. Our guides will assist you to arrange all your luggage’s and make sure nothing is left out at the airport. Our guides will give a brief introduction about the expedition and make sure you have the right equipment and gears for the Expedition. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Having our breakfast, we will depart from Kathmandu and head towards Besi sahar. Along the way, you will get to see Beautiful Rivers, Hills, and forest. We will have our lunch on the bank of Trisuli river. It will take around 6 to 7 hours depending on the traffic to reach Besi sahar. Overnight in Besi sahar.

Duration: Trip Duration: 06-07 hrs

On this day we will take a jeep from Besi sahar to koto. Koto is a beautiful village that offers magnificent views of the mountains and the river. It will take around 5 to 6 hours to reach koto. The ride to koto is a bumpy one it offers you a lifetime experience of a typical Nepali ride. Be ready for the adventure. Overnight at koto.

Having our breakfast now we will start our first trek. We will register our permit at the koto check post then head towards the trail. This trek will take us through the beautiful forest where we will be crossing the suspension bridge over the Naar Phu khola and continue our trek towards singenge. After a steep climb passing through the wooden bridges, we will finally reach the Beautiful Singenge. The total journey will take around 6 to 7 hours. Singenge is at an altitude of 3230m. Now we need to be more careful about the altitude and take precautions. Overnight at Singenge lodge.

Continuing our Himlung expedition, We will head towards Kyang passing over the beautiful settlement of meta. Today we will witness the magnificent views of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II. We will be crossing over the Mruju khola which flows from the Lyapche Glacier. Kyang lies at an altitude of 4100m after 6 to 7 hours of hike, We will arrive at Kyang. Our helpers will prepare us Warm soup and snacks. Overnight at Kyang.

Today we will leave early from kyang and head through the gorge, crossing over the wooden bridge. As we make our way up the Phu valley we will witness the different chortens and Mani walls. Our guides will briefly explain the chortens and Mani walls. After hiking for 5-6 hours crossing the last suspension bridge we will arrive in Phu valley which is at 4580m. Overnight at Phu valley.

After the long journey of 6 days today we will rest at Phu valley. Phu valley is one of the oldest valley and was completely isolated for long period of time. It hasn’t been much since Phu was opened for foreigners. Since we have rapidly gained altitude of more than 4000m Phu valley is perfect for acclimatization. We can have a complete rest day or explore the beautiful Phu valley our guides will be more than happy to guide you around the phu settlement. Overnight at Phu.

Since we have Fairly Acclimatized and regained our energy, we will now continue our journey towards the Himlung Base camp. The walk to the base camp is just 2-4 hours, once we arrive at the base camp our staff will prepare the tent and manage the campsite. They will also welcome you with a warm drink and we will have our lunch at base camp in the lap of the mountains. The Base Camp is at an altitude of 4,842meters. Our guides will make further preparation for the summit. Overnight at Base camp in a tent.

Duration: Trip Duration: 02-04 hrs

Today we will fully rest at the Base camp, and our guides will brief you about the summit and prepare you for the climb. Our guides will also check the weather and manage all the equipment’s necessary for the summit. Since the base camp is around 5000m We need to take a rest for acclimatization.

From today our climb to the summit will start. These days will be quite tough as we will be spending nights at a high altitude our Sherpas crew will be working hard to set the tent and prepare the hygienic Food as you will need the right amount of carbs, proteins and nutrients. We will follow the snowy and rocky terrain our IMFGA guides will guide us through the trail at a slow pace avoiding the chances of altitude sickness. After our arrival at camp one which is at the altitude of 5450 meters our Sherpa crew would have already set up the camp and will be ready to welcome you with hot chocolate. The climb will offer you the breathtaking view of Annapurna, Manaslu and Gangapurna. Overnight at Camp one.

After our delicious breakfast, we will move towards Camp two. The climb from Camp one to Camp two is slow and steady but strenuous and challenging. We need to save our energy and prepare our body accordingly. The trail is filled with the snow we might need to use our crampons depending on the snow condition. Once we arrive at Camp two We will spend a few moments in Camp two and witness the beauty of mother nature. After a cup of hot Tea we will descend back to Base camp for proper acclimatization this will minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Overnight at Base Camp.

Today we will spend the whole day healing our body and preparing for the summit. Since we would have already touched over 6000m Descending back to Base Camp will give us enough time to acclimatize and give us the confidence to push for the summit. We can spend a chill day at the base camp with lots of hot drinks and cool conversations. You can also share your experiences and problems with the Guides. Over night at Base camp.

After our Rest day we will continue our previous route to Camp one and spend the night in camp one.

We will follow the same trail to Camp two like the previous days.

After our Breakfast we will head to Camp three. It is a short climb to Camp three but needs to be treated with respect to avoid the dangers and risk. Upon arrival to Camp three we will have our lunch and prepare for the summit tomorrow. Today we will have our dinner quite early than usual time and rest inside our tent since there will be high speed of the winds.

Day 16 will be the biggest day of our entire himlung expedition. All our hard work will payoff on this day. We will push for the summit early in the morning. Our leaders and guides will make sure everyone is in good health with proper equipment’s. The climb to the summit is a rough and challenging one so we need to climb with precaution. After we reach the summit at 7162 meters we will be blessed with the stunning view of the pristine mountains and beautiful landscapes. We will take few photographs and quickly descend Back to camp three since it is quite risky to spend long time at such altitudes.

After the successful ascent of the summit, Today we will descend down to Base Camp. Since you would be already familiar with the trails It will take around 6-8 hours to reach base camp from Camp three. Once we arrive at Base Camp We will have a small celebration and share our experiences with all our team members and thank the God of the mountains for our successful ascend. Overnight in Base Camp.

Today our staff will clean up the camp and leave everything as it was before. We will have our breakfast and descend back to Phu village. Since we all will be tired by the climb we will slowly move down it will take around 5-6 hours to reach phu village. After we arrive at Phu we will stay at the local lodge and enjoy the Warm dinner with butter Tea.

We will follow the same trail back to Meta, witnessing the beautiful Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. After crossing the suspension bridge over murju khola We will arrive at Meta. Overnight at Meta.

After our Breakfast We say goodbye to Meta and head back to koto. The trail is steepy slope which passes through the stone houses of Singenge. After crossing a suspension bridge we will make a short ascend and arrive at koto. It will take Around 6-7 hours to Reach koto. Overnight at Koto.

Today we will trek from koto to dharapani which will take around 6 hours. Since we will be decending to dharapani the trail is steep so we need to be cautious. We will be blessed with the magnificent view of Lamjung himal. After passing through the beautiful villages like Timang and bagarchhap We will finally reach Dharapani. Overnight at Dharapani.

After the warm hot shower we will have our delicious breakfast at besi sahar. Our crew will help you pack everything on the bus and make sure nothing s left behind. The ride back to kathmandu is quite chilling most of the trekkers may fall a sleep on the ride due to the tiredness, but don’t worry we will wake you up at lunch. Over night at Kathmandu.

We, therefore, set this day to visit places of Kathmandu’s neighbor – Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. They are amazing places enlisted under UNESCO’s world heritage site, and you will love it. Overnight at the hotel of Kathmandu.

Himlung Expedition: FAQ

Himlung is the adventurous and technical mountain you need to be ready for glacier walking, icefalls, rigged slopes, cravases and many obstacles. Every mountain has it own pros and cons. Mountains should be taken for granted rather need to be treated with respect. Mt Himlung is not a trekking peak any climb over 6000 7000 m requires a certain degree of physical and mental fitness. Climbing Mt Himlung requires basic mountaineering experience. The climbers need to be familiar with previous High altitude experiences as the climbers face altitudes challenges and can get the AMS. Although Himlung is regarded as easy climbing mountain comparing to other 7000ers the success rate of the summit is quite low Himlung was first summited in 1983 by a joint expedition of Nepal and Japan. however, Mt Himlung is not as difficult as the 8000ers like Everest or Annapurna but it can act as a gateway mountain for your next 8000m summit.

Himlung expedition is a strenuous climbing up to 7162m. The expeditions require you to walk from 4 to 6 hours a day uphill and downhill in remote areas covered by rocks and snows. The summit is covered snow ice and rocks where you will be walking through the glaciers sheets using mountaineering gears./besides the climb the altitude itself is the major challenge Having an experience of high altitude is must for the Himlung expedition. Before committing for trek you need to have a previous experience of some high altitude trekking up to 5500m or small non-technical peaks this will help you get the idea of High altitude acclimatization. You should focus your training on endurance and strength. Start with 5kms of running and slightly increase it to 10 kilometres and after a month do the same running with 5 to 7 kgs of backpack this will help you build your strength. Hike long uphill and downhill once or twice a week or you can take your cycle in the uphill this will help you build your endurance. You need to build your core calves and prepare your legs for at least 6 to 7 hours of an uphill hike. Few minutes of meditation has also been found useful as it helps to train the mind. We also offer online preparation training classes for the summit.

Yes, you do, remember Himung is a summit over 7000m Which requires the long walk in the snow-covered steep terrain and full use of climbing gears like crampons, ice axe, ropes. The altitude itself requires experiences. Himlung should not be your first High altitude climbing. Having basic knowledge on the use of gears, ie: walking with the alpine boots, use of crampons, use of belay devices sleeping on high altitudes inside the tents, give you the advantages and makes the summit easy.

Monastries and Gompas

Satek Gompa is located near Nar village. This gompa gives you a glimpse of ancient Buddhism. You can witness the monks performing their daily ritual and meditating for world peace. These monks dedicate their whole life for the monastery and for the betterment of the world. Visiting the Gumba and Meditating early in the morning gives you the peace of mind and offers you the blessing for prosperous life. If you want to peace of mind and don’t know how to get it then this place will be certainly beneficial.

Phu village settlement

Phu village is remote village settlement at the altitude of 4,250m. The unique Tibetan style mud and stone houses decorated by the prayer flags and stacked by firewood are at the top makes you feel like you have time travelled back to the Genghis khans era. Phu village offers the typical lifestyle of Tibetian and Buddhism culture. You will be surprisingly amazed by the hospitality and charming smile of the villagers. The warm butter tea makes you forget about your daily dose of caffeine. After witnessing the villagers you may rethink your life that happiness doesn’t come in anything.

Plants

We can find a diverse variety of flora due to the unique geographical terrain. The lower part of the trek is filled with terraced paddy field. One of the best things we should not miss about this trek is the famous Apple farm as Manang region is famous for Appels. we can taste a variety of apple if the client wishes they can pick the fresh apple from a tree with their own hands.

Birds and animals

Annapurna Region is the home for a variety of species. Annapurna conservation area also works on conserving the endangered species and helps grow their numbers. We can see lots of blue sheep on our way if we are lucky enough we may witness snow leopard as it descends in search of blue sheep for its prey. We may see threatened species of birds like White-rumped and wood spine vulture, Himalayan monal, blood pheasant, spiny babbler.

Natural Hotspring

Natural Hot springs are one of the treasures of Annapurna region. Natural Hot spring gives us the pleasure of warming up our body and washing off the dust. The hot springs are heated by the mother earth itself providing the natural healing energy. Dipping in the hot spring while enjoying the view of the magnificent mountain is pure joy.

There are altogether three camps before the summit. From Himlung Base camp (4900 meters) to higher altitudes of camp 1 at 5,614m, Camp 2 at 5988 m and the last camp 3 at 6,400m. Our guides and helpers would set up the camp assuring your safety and comfort.

Each day brings a certain level of challenge from crossing a river trekking in the hills to summiting the peak. The most challenging days would be the days after the base camp From Himlung Base camp (4900 meters) to higher altitudes of camp 1 at 5,614m, Camp 2 at 5988 m and the last camp 3 at 6,400m. The climb consists of snow-capped ridges, rocky boulders. You will be walking through the glaciers at the freezing temperature.

Of course, we do our company has decades of experience and has got an authorized license under the government of Nepal. Our guides are international mountain guides (IMFGAs) who has achieved the title through their years of commitment experience and training. They can even run trips to international mountains. Our Guides are 8000ers Summiters they have summited Everest, Manasulu, Kanchenjunga and K2 also. So you don’t need to worry much.

Trekking and climbing is a rigorous activity which requires a strong mindset. The trekkers may face different problems For some people spending a night in the tent, sleeping inside a sleeping bag waking up early in the cold mornings may seem a problem. For some, the long and tiring walks may be the problems. If we change our perspective all these problems could a way to enhance ourselves this problem should be taken as an opportunity. Most of the problems could just be our mind-made problems due to the unknown Fear. The Basic problems would be the AMS Our guides will make sure of your safety through proper acclimatization.

Most of the trekkers might feel sick during trekking it may be of the new place, new heights, or new food but our company makes sure that you will get the basic techniques of avoiding that sickness. All of our guides have taken the first aid course and they always carry basic first aid kit with them in case of emergency. If the sickness arises from the altitudes and causes AMS the first and only option would be to descend down as soon as possible. IF the basic treatments do not work and get more serious we will immediately arrange a helicopter and get you back to Kathmandu because our first concern is clients health and safety. The cost of the Helicopter and insurance will be forwarded to your mail before the trip.

Our expedition leader will be responsible for your safety along with all the helpers and staff. Our leaders are IMFGA Guides Who have received the title through their hard work and rigorous training. They have more than 10 years of experience in mountaineering. We follow the 1:1 climbing protocol by providing you with one climbing guide(Sherpa) who will be with you all the time.

Generally, Nepal consists of four main season spring, autumn, summer and winter and two seasons spring and Autumn are considered best for trekking and mountaineering. The month of April, May, October and November are considered best for climbing avoiding the Monsoon and Winter as it gets freezing in the Winter.

In the daytime the weather can get quite sunny and warm in the night it can get to freezing temperature as cold as -30c. So be prepared for the freezing nights inside the tents.

The accommodation will be simple you will be spending few nights in the Tea houses where they provide you 2*2 Beds and warm blankets The tea houses and lodges are very nice with their warm hospitality the stays makes us forget our homesickness. Other nights you will be camping the tents will be prepared by our teams. We try our best to keep you warm throughout the whole trip.

You would be surprised by the food you will get all the foods will be included in the cost so you don’t need to worry much about the foods. The food will be prepared by the high altitude chefs with their years of experience in cooking. We make sure that the foods are properly sanitized and prepared in a hygienic environment. In the tea houses, you can get European Chinese and Nepali foods like pasta, pizza, macaroni, spring rolls, noodles, eggs, soups, and typical Nepali food Dal Bhat (Rice and lentils) with vegetables. And while camping the food will be prepared according to the body needs by balancing the carbs, proteins and nutrients.Well, there always room for your favourite snacks you can bring choco bars, power bars and flavoured drink mixes.

We do not recommend you to drink direct source water without purification. We provide all the water you need our teams will make sure the water is properly purified killing all the germs we will also provide hot water if you need. You should drink at least 4 litres of water in high altitude because higher altitudes make the body dehydrate fast losing a huge amount of oxygen the more you drink the faster your body will acclimatize avoiding the AMS.

You can find from top brands like North Face, Patagonia, black diamond, RAB, Outdoor Research to Local brand gears. Our guides would be happy to take you a tour around the Thamel and help you do the shopping so that you won’t buy unnecessary gears Thus saving the extra cost. You can also rent the gears.

All the group equipment’s, foods tents will be carried by our helpers you will not be carrying more than 8 to 10 kgs. We do not recommend you to bring extra weights as it will hamper the group dynamics.
