Gosaikunda trek is one of the best Langtang trek, where we will be exploring the beautiful Gosaikunda lake. The lake holds a very special place in the Hindu and Buddhist religion. The whole trek will take us about 10 days to complete, and take us through beautiful landscapes. Not only the landscape, but also the people of the region are very beautiful and respecting. They will teach us the way, guests are meant to be treated. As a whole, Gosaikunda Trekking is the best trekking package to take you to the sacred and stunning lake of Gosaikunda, through even more beautiful landscapes.

Starting from Kathmandu, we will be exploring the city on the very first day of our trek. On the second day, we will be travelling to Syafru Besi, taking us 7-8 hours of time. Actual trekking will start from there, on the third day of our trek. We will trek from Syafru Besi to Lama Hotel, passing through beautiful forests along the way. From Lama hotel to Thulo Syafru, finally we will reach Gosaikunda. Holding a very high point in religious value, the lake is equally if not more, naturally beautiful. We will be speechless upon our first glance of the lake. Spending a night at Gosaikunda, we will then trek to Chandanbari. Staying a night there, we will trek to Dhunche, from where, Kathmandu is just 6 hours ride away.

Travelling through ups and downs, we will greatly enjoy the views of the Langtang range. Acting as icing on the cake, the beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and the people of the region, are sure to make our trek, an imprint on our memory. Best Season for Gosaikunda Trek

The best season to enjoy the beautiful Gosaikunda trek is from October to December. Also, from March to May, the beauty of the region is equally appealing. The trek can be enjoyed throughout the year except during the months from June 15 to September 15.

Gosaikunda Trek Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arriving in Kathmandu

    Today is your very first of the Gosaikunda trek, and you will be arriving at the capital of Nepal – Kathmandu. Our representatives from Mountain Routes will pick you up at the airport and then, take you to your respective hotels. They will also be explaining any queries regarding the Gosaikunda trekking, its itinerary, trekking routes, trekking schedules, and so on. After reaching the hotel, and freshen up a bit, you can head out to explore the beautiful city of Kathmandu. You will then, return back to your hotel, and have a good night sleep; being prepared for the next day.


  • Day 2 : Kathmandu to Syafru Besi (1,550 m) Trip Duration: 7-8 hours

    On the 2nd day of our Gosaikunda trek, we will be heading out with an early breakfast. We will travel, from Kathmandu to Syafru Besi via roadways, which will take us about 7-8 hours of time. Along the way, we will pass through some of the historically and commercially significant settlements. We will also enjoy the natural views along the way. As we get closer and closer to our destination, we will get a more in depth, and more beautiful natural scenery, accompanying us. The ride is mostly on pitched road, but sometimes takes you through some graveled and off-road textured roads too. After reaching Syafru Besi, we will check into our lodge, and rest for the night there.


  • Day 3 : Syafru Besi to Lama Hotel (2,447 m) Trip Duration: 06 hours

    Today, on the 3rd day of our Gosaikunda trekking, we will be hiking from Syafru Besi to Lama Hotel, taking 6 hours of time. We will begin our trek by crossing the bridge over the tumultuous Trishuli river. The starting trail is plain and straight, passing through lush forests. After trekking for some time, we will reach Pahiro and Bamboo. From there, the trail is gradually ascending and gives you way to Lama Hotel, as we get closer. Upon reaching Lama Hotel, we can observe the Tibetan influenced culture and lifestyles of the people. Also, the beautiful Langtang National Park, will amaze us along the way. Overnight at Lama Hotel.


  • Day 4 : Lama Hotel to Thulo Syafru (2,330 m) Trip Duration: 5-6 hours

    Day 4 of our Gosaikunda trek marks our hike from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syafru, which will take us about 5-6 hours of time. First, we will be descending down to Pahiro and then cross the river there.

    Continuing our trek, we will now follow an ascending path to Thulo Syafru. Along the way, we will get to see amazing and beautiful scenes. We will also cross beautiful Tamang villages on the way. Observing their lifestyles and traditions, along with their houses, is a completely interesting scenario. You will get some informative insight regarding Tamang people. Astounding view of the Langtang Himalayan range will accompany us through out.

    We will traverse through pine and Junipers forests, and might get to see some beautiful birds and animals too. Red Pandas, one of the endangered species can also be encountered here. Upon reaching Thulo Syafru, we will check into our hotel, and spend the night there.


  • Day 5 : Thulo Syafru to Shin Gompa (3,330 m) Trip Duration: 4-5 hours

    Today, we will be trekking from Thulo Syafru to Shin Gompa, which will take us about 4-5 hours of time. We will pass many villages along the way, including Dimsa village. Traversing through Durdagang and Foprang Danda at an altitude of 3200 meters, we will pass through lush Rhododendron, hemlock and Oak forests.

    View of the beautiful Langtang Himalayan range will be with us along the way. From Foprang Danda, Shin Gompa is short distance. Also, the highlight of the place is small local cheese factory. Upon reaching, Shin Gompa, we will see some nearby places, and spend the night there.


  • Day 6 : Shin Gompa to Gosaikunda (4,460 m) Trip Duration: 5-6 hours

    Today, is a very special day as we will be reaching our ultimate destination of Gosaikunda trekking, Gosaikunda. It will take us about 5-6 hours of time, to trek from Shin Gompa to Gosaikunda. The journey takes us through a rocky landscape and sparse bushes. All along the way, we will be accompanied by the stunning views of the Himalayas including the Annapurna, Himchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang Himal. It is sure to be mesmerizing trip to Gosaikunda.
    We will follow a ridge for most part of the trek, and slowly come across the glimpse of the first holy lake. Through the second lake, we will finally reach the third lake, Gosaikunda lake. Gosaikunda lake holds a special place in religious and cultural part for the Nepalese people. It is also one of the most, trekked religious destination of the country. The lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides. A large rock, in the middle of the lake, is believed to be the remnant of Shiva Shrine. We will enjoy the amazing beauty this place has to offer, and after that stay the night in Gosaikunda.


  • Day 7 : Gosaikunda to Chandanbari (2,000 m) Trip Duration: 5 hours

    Day 7 of our Gosaikunda trekking, consists of trekking from Gosaikunda to Chandanbari, which will take us about 5 hours of time. The trail is mostly descending and we will lose about 2400 meters in a single day. The trail from Gosaikunda to Chandanbari is a rugged and narrow one. The cold breeze as we start our trek will make us refreshed and we will be walking through barren hills.
    We will first come across a temple – Sakyamuni. From there, following the trail further, we will reach Lauribinayak (3900 m). Following the trail further, we will reach Cholangpaty (3500 m), from where beautiful panoramic views of mountains such as Langtang Lirung(7234m), Langtang Ri(7205m), Manaslu(8163m) and Ganesh Himal(7422m), can be enjoyed greatly. It is only about 1 and a half hour from Cholangpaty, to reach Chandanbari. Overnight at Chandanbari.


  • Day 8 : Chandanbari to Dhunche (1,300 m) Trip Duration: 6 hours

    Today, on the 8th day of our Gosaikunda trekking, we will hike from Chandanbari to Dhunche, which will take us about 6 hours of time. The trail is mostly descending, and after starting today’s trek, we will shortly cross a suspension bridge over the Ghatte Khola, and descend further down. One interesting thing during today’s trek is, the “Himalayan Spring” mineral water factory. Also, we will be passing through beautiful pine, silver oak and Rhododendron forests. And, we might also encounter some wildlife like, black bear, Languor monkeys, deer, Himalayan Kaalij, and so on along the way. Continuing following the trek further, we will finally reach Dhunche. Dhunche is the headquarters of the Rasuwa District. Upon reaching Dhunche, we will check into our lodge and spend the night there.


  • Day 9 : Dhunche to Kathmandu Trip Duration: 6 hours

    On the 9th day of our Gosaikunda trek, we will be travelling from Dhunche to Kathmandu via roadways. It will take us about 6 hours of time. We will travel early today, in order to have some time to explore the Kathmandu city, upon reaching there. Driving through the Langtang National park, we will enjoy this ride back to the capital. The road until Betrawoti and Trisuli Bazaar is graveled so it is going to be a bumpy ride. We will have lunch at Trisuli Bazar, and after that, enjoy a smooth ride back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, we will go to our hotels, freshen up, then go about exploring some parts of the beautiful city. We can also do some shopping to take as a souvenir. At night, we can enjoy the beautiful night life of Thamel. A good night’s sleep is all that is left for the day.


  • Day 10 : Departure

    Today, as the last day of our Gosaikunda trek, you will be travelling back home. Our representatives from Mountain Routes, will pick you up from your hotel, and drop you at airport. We will share goodbyes and bade each other farewell, at the airport. You will then board the plane, with beautiful memories and an amazing experience, to bring smile in your face, every time you think about it. With some part of you touched during the last 10 days, you will be traveling back home.

  • How difficult is Gosaikunda Trek ?

    Gosaikunda Trekking comes under moderate trek Grade. However one needs to be in good physical condition to complete the trek as you need to trek in high altitude and steep terrain. The trails are not confusing and well maintained. Gosaikunda trekking is recommended for all level of trekkers. This trail doesn’t require any technical skills or mountaineering skills.

  • Can I do Gosaikunda trek as my first trek?

    Of course, Gosaikunda trek is for all level of trekkers you don’t need any technical skills for this trek in fact this trek can act as a doorway for further treks. This trekking fills your heart with the desire to explore more. If you want to start trekking in the Himalayas then Gosaikunda is the best destination for you.

  • How long should do I need to walk per day?

    On average you will be walking for 6 to 7 hours a day but it depends on the itinerary and the day you are walking someday you might need to hike for 4 to 6 hours some day  6 to 7 hours.

  • How many days does it take to complete the trek?

    It will take roughly around 10 days to complete the trek. However, the itinerary could be modified at your convenience.

  • Will I be travelling to langtang valley also?

    Yes of course first we will be going to Langtang valley travel around the Beautiful valley and then trek to Gosaikunda. We will be starting from Syafru Besi to Lama Hotel then Shin Gompa from there we will trek to Gosaikunda.

  • Which is the best season to do Gosaikunda trek?

    The best seasons for trekking are autumn and spring. (March, April, May, September, October, November) avoiding the monsoon and winter season. However, if you want to witness the beautiful frozen lake then we can do the trek in winter season also.

  • Tell me something about Gosaikunda?

    Gosaikunda lake is a sacred lake situated at the altitude of 4300m. This lake is considered the holy lake to both Hindu and Buddhist. Every year thousands of pilgrims visit this sacred lake to get the blessings. Gosaikunda lake is followed by 2 other holy lakes (Saraswati Kunda and Bhairabkunda). These three lakes have their own story once lord shiva drank poison in order to save the gods the poison was so strong that he went up to the hill and poked the hill with his trident(Trishul) which later formed the great Trisuli river and 3 lakes. It is believed that Lord Shiva himself meditated in the Gosainkunda lake for 100 years. These lakes offer a combination of mountains, greenery and the sacred lake from which you can also get blessings for your future.

  • How are the people and culture of Gosaikunda trek?

    Gosaikunda Region is filled with diverse cultural and ethnic groups. You will be trekking through various villages which will give you the unique experience of rural life. Tribes like Tamang, Sherpa, and hyolmo are the indigenous tribes of this region. Most of their lifestyle is influenced by Tibetan culture and a majority of them are Buddhist. Their warm hospitality will take away your homesickness. Most of the houses were destroyed by the 2015 earthquake however the newly made houses are also made from the local stones and colourful prayer flags at the top.

  • What type of accommodation should i expect in this trek?

    Gosaikunda trek is Tea House trekking. Tea houses are small lodges which provide the basic facility of Food and bed. The tea houses offer Warm and soft bed with comfy blankets. Hot shower, wifi, with attached bathroom. You will be surprised if this is your first time trekking in the Himalayas.

  • What about the Meal?

    The tea house offers well-cooked clean and hygienic meal. The food will be prepared by the experienced cooks and will be carefully monitored by our guides so that it reaches the quality. You can get the food as per your order from local meal Dal Bhat to European and Chinese meal like noodles, pasta, MOMO, macaroni, pizza, sausages, Tibetan bread, omelette, sandwich, chapati, and many more. You can always bring your favourite snack like Choco bars chocolate and mix flavours of juice. These items could be brought at Kathmandu.

  • Can i drink the direct water?

    We do not recommend drinking direct water as it is not considered healthy. Filtered water can be brought at the tea houses and shops. We recommend you to bring puritans to filter the water or your own life straw which saves the cost of the water. You can also bring mix flavour’s to give taste to your water. sometimes dehydration sachets are also useful. While trekking you should at least drink 3 4 litres of water as your body dehydrates fast in high altitudes. Water raises the oxygen level and maintains the body pressure also. You can also get hot water in Tea houses.

  • How much does our backpack weight?

    You will not be carrying much weights just your daypack with water and some rain jackets it will not weight more than 2 3 kilos unless you don’t plan on hiring a porter. Our company will arrange the porter for helping you and making the trip easy. Our porter will carry up to 25 to 30 kg depending on the journey. We do not recommend bringing extra weights as it will hamper the trip unless you plan to hire two porters.

  • What happens if i get sick during the Trek?

    Most of the trekkers might feel sick during trekking it may be of the new place, new heights, or new food but our company makes sure that you will get the basic techniques of avoiding those sicknesses. All of our guides have taken the first aid course and they always carry basic first aid kit with them in case of emergency. If the sickness arises from the altitudes and causes AMS the first and only option would be to descend down as soon as possible. IF the basic treatments do not work and get more serious we will immediately arrange a helicopter and get you back to Kathmandu because our first concern is clients health and safety. The cost of the Helicopter and insurance will be forwarded to your mail before the trip.

  • Can I buy my gears at Nepal?

    Of course, you can there are many retail shops of trekking gears in Kathmandu. You can buy quality gears in Thamel. There is also famous trekking brands showroom like RAB, North face, Outdoor research, Blackdimond, etc. Our guides can assist you while buying the gears this will help you to save the extra cost on unnecessary gears.

  • What about the Gosaikunda Trekking permit?

    You will need a permit to enter the Langtang national park. Our company will arrange all the necessary permits and logistics for this Gosaikunda trek.
