Annapurna Region Trek
The Annapurna Region lies in the north-central part of Nepal, approximately 80km long, between the Marsyangdi and Kali Gandaki rivers. The area covers a total of six districts. They are Baglung, Kaski, Lamjung,Manang, Mustang and Myagdi. The trekking region of Annapurna in Nepal is a trekker’s paradise and is one of the most beautiful regions for trekking. The area has some of the world’s highest mountains, incredible views, and wildlife.
It has everything you need for a great holiday; from high-altitude grasslands and alpine meadows to forests, glaciers, waterfalls, terraced fields, and charming villages. Interestingly, the Annapurna trekking region is dominated by the towering peak Annapurna I (8,091m) and surrounded by thirteen peaks exceeding 7,000m(22,966 ft), and sixteen more are over 6,000 meters (19,685 ft).
Mountain Annapurna and Annapurna Conservation Area
The majestic Annapurna derives its name from the revered Hindu goddess, whose Sanskrit title signifies “everlasting food”. The name where “anna” means food and “purna” means complete. According to local belief, the goddess herself inhabits this magnificent mountain. Hence, she sustains people living below the belt through thousands of flowing streams.
Annapurna Conservation Area is Nepal’s largest protected natural area. It is located in the Annapurna Himalayan Range and covers an area of 2,946 square miles. The conservation area extends across six districts: Manang, Mustang, Kaski, Myagdi, and Lamjung. In addition, the conservation area includes the Annapurna sanctuary within its boundaries.
The area’s landscape is occupied mainly by several mountains, including Mount Annapurna and Nilgiri South. Other mountains include Nilgiri North, Himchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail), Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Tukuche Peak, and others.
The incredible views of the mountains are most significant when viewed from the top of Poon Hill in Ghorepani and from Ghandruk village.
