Annapurna Region Trek

The Annapurna Region lies in the north-central part of Nepal, approximately 80km long, between the Marsyangdi and Kali Gandaki rivers. The area covers a total of six districts. They are Baglung, Kaski, Lamjung,Manang, Mustang and Myagdi. The trekking region of Annapurna in Nepal is a trekker’s paradise and is one of the most beautiful regions for trekking. The area has some of the world’s highest mountains, incredible views, and wildlife.

It has everything you need for a great holiday; from high-altitude grasslands and alpine meadows to forests, glaciers, waterfalls, terraced fields, and charming villages. The region is also famous for its Annapurna Circuit trek and Annapurna Base Camp trek, amongst other treks. Mountain Routes offers different trekking packages to the Annapurna region. Interestingly, the Annapurna trekking region is dominated by the towering peak Annapurna I (8,091m) and surrounded by thirteen peaks exceeding 7,000m(22,966 ft), and sixteen more are over 6,000 meters (19,685 ft).

Mountain Annapurna and Annapurna Conservation Area

The majestic Annapurna derives its name from the revered Hindu goddess, whose Sanskrit title signifies “everlasting food”.  The name where “anna” means food and “purna” means complete. According to local belief, the goddess herself inhabits this magnificent mountain. Hence, she sustains people living below the belt through thousands of flowing streams. 

Annapurna Conservation Area is Nepal’s largest protected natural area. It is located in the Annapurna Himalayan Range and covers an area of 2,946 square miles. The conservation area extends across six districts: Manang, Mustang, Kaski, Myagdi, and Lamjung. In addition, the conservation area includes the Annapurna sanctuary within its boundaries.

The area’s landscape is occupied mainly by several mountains, including Mount Annapurna and Nilgiri South. Other mountains include Nilgiri North, Himchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail), Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Tukuche Peak, and others.

The incredible views of the mountains are most significant when viewed from the top of Poon Hill in Ghorepani and from Ghandruk village.

    Any trekking to the famous Annapurna Region starts from Pokhara. Typically, you start from Pokhara, heading towards one of the many starting points. Usually, we start from Naya Pul towards our destinations.

    Yes, solo trekking in the Annapurna Region is possible, but as of recent regulations, a licensed guide is mandatory for safety reasons. It’s recommended to check the latest trekking permit and guide requirements before your trip. It’s because some places are restricted for solo travelers, such as Upper Mustang and Nar Phu Valley.

    You need an ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) and a TIMS permit to trek in the region and around Annapurna. A TIMS Card is obligatory for the safety and security of trekkers.We can organize these permits for you after you provide the essential documents and fees required by the authority.

    There are two permits required to trek the Annapurna Area. To obtain the trekking permit, individuals or groups must pay the required fees and provide authentic documents to validate their identity with the authority.

     

    Mountain Routes arranges all the necessary permits for our clients. But, nevertheless, if you want to arrange the permits yourself, you need:

    Documents for ACAP and TIMS:

    Fees for ACAP:

    • NPR 3,000 per person for foreign nationals
    • NPR 1,000 per person for SAARC nationals
    • Free for Nepali citizens

    Fees for TIMS:

    • NPR 2,000 per person for foreign nationals
    • NPR 1000 per person for SAARC nationals
    • NPR 1000 per person for Nepali citizens

    Depending on the package chosen, the duration of the trek varies. The shortest one we offer is 8 days, while the longest one is 18 days. Annapurna Circuit Trek is the longest among the eight Annapurna packages we offer for the Annapurna trekking region.

    If you want to customize the package, we are happy to change it according to your time and budget on your request.

    You can trek during the Spring season in Nepal from March until May. During this time, you can trek under almost perfect weather conditions. However, you might not see as much snow during that time. Likewise, you can opt for the Autumn season to trek. Autumn in Nepal starts around mid-September until the end of November.

    We suggest preparing yourself for the trek to Annapurna before going for it. You must be fit enough to handle extreme conditions like cold temperature, high altitude, and steep trails.

    There is no age bar for trekking in the Annapurna region. However, we suggest consulting with us before you choose the best package for you. We can help you choose the best depending on your health conditions and your partner.
