Can a beginner do an Annapurna trek?

Yes, a beginner can trek in the Annapurna region. The key is choosing the right route. Annapurna is a large trekking area, not one single trek. Nepal Tourism Board lists routes from short treks to multi-week journeys.

Lower routes around Ghandruk and Poon Hill suit many first-time trekkers. They stay lower and are easier to plan. A fit beginner can also complete Annapurna Base Camp with preparation. ABC reaches 4,130 m, so altitude still matters.

The Annapurna Circuit is a bigger challenge. It crosses Thorong La at 5,416 m and takes much longer. Beginners should first build basic hill fitness. Train with stairs, longer walks, and a small pack.

Use good boots and proper layers. Do not choose the shortest plan just to save time. A slower route is often the better first Himalayan experience.
