Annapurna

Annapurna is one of Nepal’s most majestic mountains, towering 26,247ft above sea level. Any of the trekking trails through the region is truly breathtaking. Its stunning scenery and breathtaking vistas simply amaze the visitors on the trail.

The trekking region of Annapurna in Nepal is a trekker’s paradise. There are number of trails to choose from. You are almost guaranteed to see some spectacular scenery no matter which one you take.
Annapurna Region
The Annapurna Region lies in the Western Region of Nepal. It is one of the most beautiful regions for trekking. The region is home to some of the world’s highest mountains, incredible views, and wildlife.

The varied landscape includes high-altitude grasslands, alpine meadows, forests, glaciers, waterfalls, terraced fields, and villages.
The entire region of Annapurna lies between Gandaki and Dhaulagiri Zones. The area covers a total of six districts. They are Baglung, Kaski, Lamjung,Manang, Mustang and Myagdi.
The region is also famous for its Annapurna Circuit trek and Annapurna base camp trek, amongst other treks.
Interestingly, there is a peak of over 8,000 meters (26,247 ft). Additionally, thirteen peaks are over 7,000 meters (22,966 ft), and sixteen more are over 6,000 meters (19,685 ft).
Mountain Annapurna
The mountain is named after “Annapurna,” the Hindu goddess. Her name in Sanskrit means “everlasting food.” The name where “anna” means food and “purna” means complete.
It is believed the goddess herself resides in Mt. Annapurna. Hence, she provides sustenance to people living below the belt through thousands of flowing streams.
The Annapurna mountain range lies from north to south. On either side of the mountains are two rivers, the Kali Gandaki and Marsyangdi. The Madi River originates near the basecamp.
These streams provide water for the farms and pastures in the lower regions.
Annapurna Conservation Area
Annapurna Conservation Area is Nepal’s largest protected natural area. It is located in the Annapurna mountain range and covers an area of 2,946 square miles.
The conservation area extends across six districts Manang, Mustang, Kaska, Myagdi, Lamjung. In addition, the conservation area includes The Annapurna sanctuary comes under the Annapurna Conservation Area.
The Annapurna Conservation area is occupied mainly by several mountains, including Mount Annapurna and Nilgiri South. There are also other mountains such as Nilgiri North, Himchuli, machhapuchhre, Ganga Purna, Lamjung Himal, Tukuche Peak, and others.
The incredible views of the mountains are most significant when viewed from the top of Pun Hill in Ghorepani and from Ghandruk village.
Annapurna Sanctuary
Several trekking routes in Annapurna Region pass through the Annapurna Sanctuary. Annapurna Sanctuary is now a part of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).
The sanctuary is home to the world’s rare and endangered wildlife. Snow leopards, Red pandas, musk deer, and many other colorful Nepalese birds inhabit the place.
Due to its location in the Himalayas, the Annapurna Sanctuary receives only seven hours of direct sunlight each day during the height of summer.
