Chisapani hike is one of the nearest escapes which lies in the north east outskirts at Shivapuri national park from the busy city Kathmandu with maximum elevation about 2,430 m above sea level. In 2002, with the objective for conservation of 117 birds species, 102 butterflies species, numerous rare orchids and animals like monkeys, barking deer, civets, mongoose, reptiles, tigers,leopards and bears as well as to initiate water project, a gateway for the main source of water in the valley ,a total area covering 159 square km. was recognized as a  Shiva puri national park.

A journey to chisapani is a perfect hiking option beginning with the village walk in sundarijal where  natural streams and waterfalls meet in tributary rivers Shyalmati and Nagmati confluence with Bagmati river. Walking through steep uphills and stone steps, settlements get thinner and take you to the dense tranquil forest and beautiful hill station which offers a picturesque landscape of  Langtang Range, Annapurna, Gauri Shanker, Dorje Lhakpa and if the weather favours you can see Everest too.

Itineraries

  • Day 1: Pickup

    You will be picked up from your respective hotels and drive towards the north east side of valley through BoudhaNath Stupa and Gokarnehwor.

  • Day 2: Stop At: Sundarijal, Kathmandu

    Sundarijal is a beautiful village dedicated to her holy goddess Sundari mai, The literal meaning of Sundarijal is Beauty and Water.This village lies in the bottom  of a dense forest and conservation park where the sacred holy river Bagmati originates and has been a major source of water supply for Kathmandu Valley. Natural streams and waterfalls have made this place a perfect destination for canyoning.  We start walking through Sundarijal village to the old reservoir damside along  elevating stone  steps and a large pipe carrying water to Kathmandu paves your way to the countryside but before that to enter in Shivapuri national park , one must have to take permit from Army checkpoint.

  • Day 3: Stop At: Mulkharka

    Mulkharka is a less populated small village extended to approximately one km area and predominant residence of Tamang and newar community people which concludes settlement and further destination leads you ahead to  sheer compacted forest trails via Steep uphills.

  • Day 4: Stop At: Chisapani hill station

    After a vigorous walk  of 6-7 hours you will reach your destination, Chisapani is a small village and basically a doorway to numerous trekking routes like Langtang mountain and Gosaikunda Trek is a famous one.

  • Day 5: Drop off: At your Hotels

    After catching the first ray of sunlight we will be heading back towards sundarijal from the same hiking routes and drive back  to your respective hotels.

  • Non-Residence Nepali/ Foreigners should clearly show their identity, passport is required at Army check post.
  • Take Nothing but photos, Leave nothing but footprints. Shivapuri national park is under conservation of Nepal government and throwing waste garbage is strictly prohibited.
  • From mulkharka there are no retail shops available, please ensure that you have bought all necessary things like enough packaged food, Energy bars, Water etc.
  • Make sure while descending from chisapani you require strength for a downhill walk, so you should intake carb loaded foods which provide you continous strength.
  • While descending you can extend your package for Nagarkot overnight too.

      Chisapani is a small village and gateway for different trekking routes, there are small settlements and local people out there are mostly engaged in hotel B & B business.During the trekking season falls (october-December) chisapani is quite a busy route, so pre-information for accommodation shall be required. While talking about accommodation it might not be too comfortable but fairly cosy for getting a nap after a long tiring walk.

      As we begin our journey from sundarijal to chisapani it’s almost 5-6 hours walk and stay there. Descending through the same path, it means you have to walk for 10-11 hours in the overall journey.

      However, this hiking route is nearest to Kathmandu and even the shortest one, but we would like to inform you that 90 percent uphill walk and downhill walk might require strength and support to  your ankle .
