Kanchenjunga circuit trek is one of the best and amazing, journey you can embark upon. Taking you around the Kanchenjunga circuit, this trek is sure to win your heart. Beautiful nature and even more beautiful people, will be all along the trail. Taking 23 days of time, this trek will make you fall in love with nature, even more. And, you will want to revisit Nepal and Kanchenjunga, along with your loved ones.

Starting from Kathmandu, we will be travelling to Bhadrapur on the very first day of our trek. We will travel via flight, which will take us about 45 minutes of time. From Bhadrapur, we will travel to Taplejung through Mechi highway. It will take us a whole day, about 8-9 hours. From Taplejung,our actual trek begins and we will trek to Chhirwa. Chhirwa to Lelep, to Amjilosa, and then to Gyabla. We will then trek to Ghunsa, and spend an extra day there, acclimatizing to the climate, and exploring the area. We will head to Khambachen, and then to Lhonak. From Lhonak, we will hike to the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, and return back to Lhonak.

From Lhonak, we will again head to Ghunsa. From there, to Sele Le, and then to Tseram. It is from Tseram, that we will reach the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp, and then return back to Tseram. To Torongten and then to Yamphuding, we will trek from Tseram. From Yamphuding, we will then hike to Khebang to Khamdime and back to Bhadrapur. From Bhadrapur, we will take a flight back to Kathmandu, taking an excursion in the city, on the same day.

We will trek through ups and downs, along the beautiful nature and its beautiful people. Enjoying awesome views along the way, we will get to see the majestic Kanchenjunga mountain, up close along with other beautiful snow-capped mountains on the backdrop. We will also get to know about the natives of the region, along with their culture and lifestyle. Their hospitality is sure to amaze us. In the end, we will be left with beautiful memories and an amazing experience to last for a very long time. With a story to pass down through generations, you will be returning back home.

Best time to Trek

The best season for trekking the Kanchenjunga region is from early March to mid-May. Also, between the months of October to November, the trek can be enjoyed very much. It is not advised to trek during the monsoon season (July to August).

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arriving at Kathmandu

    Today, you will arrive at the beautiful city of Kathmandu. Our representatives from Mountain Routes will pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel. They will be explaining the trekking routes, schedule and any other important information regarding the trek. Upon reaching the hotel, you can freshen up and then go out to explore the beautiful city of temples.

  • Day 2 : Kathmandu to Bhadrapur Trip Duration: 45 minutes

    Today, we will be travelling from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur via flight, taking 45 minutes. Upon reaching Bhadrapur, we will explore the town and its nearby places a bit. At the same time, we will also prepare for our trek. Overnight at Bhadrapur.

  • Day 3 : Bhadrapur to Taplejung (2420 m) Trip Duration: 8-9 hours

    On the 3rd day of our Kanchenjunga trek, we will travel from Bhadrapur to Taplejung. Taking us 8-9 hours of time, we will be travelling via Mechi highway. We will see beautiful green hills of Illam along the way. We will reach Suketar, Taplejung after 8-9 hours of travel today.

  • Day 4 : Trek to Chhirwa (1185 m) Trip Duration: 6-7 hours

    4th day marks the beginning of our actual trek. We will be trekking from Suketar to Chhirwa, which will take us about 6-7 hours of time. The trail today, is a downward one, descending up till Chhirwa. Passing through pastures and small villages on the way, we will also be enjoying the good view of Hungdewa and Tamur river. After continuing to walk further, we will each Sinwa village, and then trek towards Tawa. We will also cross the suspension bridge at Thiwa, and following the trail further for some time, we finally reach our destination for today, Chhirwa. Chhirwa is a small Limbu village, where we will be spending the night for today.

  • Day 5 : Chirwa to Lelep (1860 m) Trip Duration: 7 hours

    Today, we will be trekking from Chhirwa to Lelep, which takes about 7 hours. We will pass Tapethok on the way. Restricted area starts at Tapethok, and we need to pass through a checkpoint. We will have lunch at Tapethok, and continue our trek to Lelep. We will spend the night at Lelep.

  • Day 6 : Lelep to Amjilosa (2510 m) Trip Duration: 5-6 hours

    On day 6 of our Kanchenjunga circuit trek, we will be trekking from Lelep to Amjilosa. It will take us about 5-6 hours of time. The trek is a bit slippery, so it is advised to wear a good pair of boots. We will pass through Lamatar, along the way. Passing through various waterfalls along the way, we will greatly enjoy, today’s trek. Overnight at Amjilosa.Amjilosa to Gyabla (2730 m)

  • Day 7 : Amjilosa to Gyabla (2730 m) Trip Duration: 5 hours

    Today, on the 7th day of our trek, we will be trekking from Amjilosa to Gyabla. The trail traverses through dense Rhododendron and oak forests. We will also cross many waterfalls and small villages along the way. Along with the beautiful view of the mountains, we will also see some occasional wildlife, among the trees or high o the slopes. Walking further along the trail, we finally reach Gyabla. Overnight at Gyabla.

  • Day 8 : Gyabla to Ghunsa (3595 m) Trip Duration: 5 hours

    On day 8 of our trek, we will be travelling from Gyabla to Ghunsa. On starting our trek, we will soon reach Phole village. It is a Tibetan style village, from where a steady climb leads to the small town of Ghunsa. The view from Ghunsa is astounding, and upon reaching there, we will roam around a bit, enjoying the view. Then, go to our lodges, and stay the night there.

  • Day 9 : Acclimatization at Ghunsa

    Our 9th day of the Kanchenjunga trek consists of, acclimatizing at Ghunsa. We will do this to better adapt to the climatic condition of the region. To better utilize this day, we will explore its surrounding area. The natural beauty of the place and its surrounding, along with its cultural highlights, makes Ghunsa, a best place for acclimatizing.

  • Day 10 : Ghunsa to Khambachen (4100 m) Trip Duration: 4-5 hours

    10th day of our trek, consists of hiking from Ghunsa to Khambachen. We will trek north, along the riverside. Following the trail for some time, we will slowly start ascending through high land trees and vegetations. We will then reach Rampuk Kharka, where we will be crossing a bridge, and also come across a beautiful waterfall. Following the trail further, we will reach Jannu, and finally reach Khambachen. Overnight at Khambachen.

  • Day 11 : Khambachen to Lhonak (4785 m) Trip Duration: 4 hours

    On the 11th day of our Kanchenjunga circuit trekking, we will trek from Khambachen to Lhonak. Today, we need to cross a risky area – landslide area. The loose soil and rock form the landslide area, and crossing it must be done with much care. We will walk along the river bank, crossing a beautiful waterfall and a bridge, before reaching Ramtang. Following the trail further, we finally reach Lhonak, where we will be spending the night.

  • Day 12 : Lhonak to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (4785 m), Back to Lhonak Trip Duration: 8-9 hours

    Today, we will reach one of the base camps of Kanchenjunga – North base camp. We will walk along the glaciers on the northern rides. The Buddhist prayer flags will guide us the way to the north base camp of Kanchenjunga. We will be greatly rewarded by the stunning panoramic view of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. After spending some time at the base camp, enjoying the amazing view it has to offer, we head back to Lhonak.

  • Day 13 : Lhonak to Ghunsa (3595) Trip Duration: 6 hours

    From Lhonak, we will be heading to Ghunsa, today. It will take us about 6 hours of time. We will follow the same trail we used, while going up. Upon reaching Ghunsa, we will spend the night there.

  • Day 14 : Ghunsa to Sele Le (4200 m) Trip Duration: 4-5 hours

    Today, we will be trekking to Sele Le. The trail is a steep one, and a gradual walk is advised. Traversing through dense and beautiful Rhododendron and Juniper forests, we will enjoy the view, all along the walk. Having lunch in our way, we will finally reach Sele Le. Overnight at Sele Le.

  • Day 15 : Sele Le to Tseram (3868 m) Trip Duration: 6-7 hours

    Day 15 marks the trek from Sele Le to Tseram, which will take us about 6-7 hours of time. After walking for about 1 hour, we will reach the bottom of Mirgin La pass, and continuing further we reach Sinion La pass. Walking further, we will cross another pass. Taking packed lunch and water with us, we will enjoy it along the way. Following the trail further, we will come across some ponds. From there, we will start to see Tseram. After walking for some time, we will finally reach Tseram, where we will spend the night.

  • Day 16 : Tseram to Ramche (4610 m); visit Kanchenjunga South Base Camp (), back to Ramche Trip Duration: 3 hours + 2 hours

    Trekking from Tseram to Ramche will take us about 2 hours of time. We will be having lunch at Ramche. Then, the trek from Ramche to Kanchenjunga South base camp begins. It will take us about 2 hours to reach. Enjoying the stunning views of the majestic mountains around, we will spend some time at the south base camp, Kanchenjunga. After that, we will return back to Ramche, which will take us extra 2 hours. Overnight at Ramche.

  • Day 17 : Ramche to Torongten (2980 m) Trip Duration: 4-5 hours

    On the 16th day of our Kanchenjunga circuit trek, we will be hiking from Ramche to Torongten. Following the trail along the Simbhuwa Khola, we will reach Torongten. The trail also traverses through some forests along the way. Upon reaching Torongten, we will check into our lodge and have something hot to eat. Overnight at Torongten.

  • Day 18 : Torongten to Yamphuding (2080 m) Trip Duration: 7-8 hours

    Today’s trek consists of trekking from Torongten to Yamphuding, which will take us about 7-8 hours. The trail today will pass along the tree-lined and green pastures, on the slopes. We will reach Yamphuding, following the trail. Yamphuding has access to motor roads. Overnight at Yamphuding.

  • Day 19 : Yamphuding to Khebang (1910 m) Trip Duration: 5-6 hours

    Day 19 of our Kanchenjunga circuit trek consists of, trekking from Yamphuding to Khebang. It will take us about 5-6 hours of time, and we will be walking through local villages and terrace fields. The trail today, is not generally used, so we get to walk through a more natural and unspoiled trail. Also, the locals are very friendly and welcoming. We stay in a homestay in Khebang.

  • Day 20 : Khebang to Khamdime (1500 m) Trip Duration: 5-6 hours

    Today, we will be trekking from Khebang to Khamdime, which will take us about 6-7 hours of time. After reaching Khamdime, we will roam around the place, also a regional school present there. Overnight at Khamdime.

  • Day 21 : Khamdime to Bhadrapur (91 m) Trip Duration: 10 hours

    We will drive from Khamdime to Bhadraur, taking 10 hours of time. First few hours is a off road drive, but after that, we will drive in a highway, leading to Bhadrapur.

  • Day 22 : Bhadrapur to Kathmandu Trip Duration: 40 minutes

    We will take a flight from Bhadrapur to Kathmandu, which will take us about 40 minutes of time. After landing in Kathmandu, we will be greeted and received by our representatives from Mountain Routes. We will then go to our hotels, and freshen up. After that, we will go out to explore the beautiful city of Kathmandu. We will also do some shopping today, to take as a souvenir. At night, we can enjoy the amazing night life of Thamel. A good night’s sleep is all that’s left for the day.

  • Day 23 : Departure

    Today you will be leaving Nepal. Our representatives will pick you up from your hotel, and drop you at the airport. We will be sharing goodbyes and bade each other farewell. You will, then be boarding the plane, with nothing but beautiful memories and an amazing experience. Within the last 23 days, you will some part of you touched, and a beautiful story to pass down through generations.
