The very first day of the trek begins with you arriving at the capital of Nepal – Kathmandu. We will have our representatives receive you at the airport. They will be helping you get to your respective hotels, and also understand the whole trekking routes and schedules. After reaching your hotel, you can rest for a while, then explore the beautiful city of temples.
On our second day of the trip, we will have an early breakfast then head to the airport. Today, we will be travelling to Lukla. We will take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, which is about 35 minutes duration. We will be greeted by our team, after landing at Lukla, where we will be introduced to the whole team, our guides and the potters who will be helping us, throughout the trek.
From Lukla, we will start our trek to Phakding. The trek is a gradual descent till Phakding via Chheplung and Ghat village. It will follow a gentle climb up the mountainside of the Dudh Koshi river. The whole hike will take us about 3 hours and will be a pretty easy one. Upon reaching Phakding, we will explore around a bit, and then rest there for the night, to continue our trek the next day.
Our 3rd day of the trek consists of hiking from Phakding to Namche Bazar. After an early breakfast, we will head out to Namche Bazar and shortly after starting our trek, we will reach the confluence of two glacial rivers: Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi river. Continuing our trek further, we will have an excellent view of Mt. Everest (8848 m) and Mt. Lhotse (8516 m), finally reaching Namche Bazar.
The trek traverses through, beautiful pine forests, crosses many suspension bridges, and Sherpa villages; allowing you to get lost in the scenic and cultural beauty of the region. Surrounded on 3 sides by mountains, Namche Bazar is the central hub of the region, for food and other essential items needed for the trekker, and people living there.
On day 4 of our trek, we will still be staying at Namche Bazar, adapting and adjusting to the climatic conditions of the region. It will prevent us, from having any problems along the way, such as altitude sickness. As we will be spending one more day at Namche Bazar, we will properly utilize this time by exploring the town and by visiting nearby places. The town of Namche Bazar offers a variety of cyber-cafes, restaurants and we can also get insight on the culture and tradition of the native Sherpas.
The excursion outside the town of Namche Bazar, includes visiting places such as, Sherpa Culture museum, Sagarmatha National Park, Namche monastery and Tenzing Norgay memorial museum, Everest view hotel. This gives us an opportunity to dive deep into the culture of people there, the wildlife in the region, religion of the Sherpas and many more. Another thing to enjoy today, is the magnificent view of sunrise over the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Kongde and so on. We will then return to our hotels and enjoy a good night’s sleep.
The trek from Namche Bazar to Phortse is a relatively easier trek which passes through Mong La. From Mong La, the trek goes downhill to Phortse Tenga. We will then cross the Dudh Koshi river; which is a steep uphill climb to the Phortse village. Phortse village is an alternative path to the Everest Base Camp. The breathtaking views of the Himalayas – Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kwangde, will act as our motivation, while trekking. Phortse is also known as, one of the most beautiful places in the whole Everest region trek.
On day 6 of our Everest trekking, we will be trekking from beautiful Phortse village to the tea-house settlement of Dingboche. The trail leads parallelly with the canyon on Imja Khola river. Then, we will follow a gradual climb up to the village of Pengboche, followed by the visit to the Pengboche monastery – one of the oldest in the region. In the afternoon, trek will be a little difficult one, as the trail gives way to dry, deserted mountains. Following the trail, we will reach Dingboche.
On the 7th day of our trek, we will be acclimatizing at Dingboche. It is done, to better adapt to the climate of the region. And, the best way to do this is to, hike higher and sleep lower. We will utilize this day by hiking to Nangartshang hill. Due to the high altitude of Nangartshang hill, we are recommended to spend at least 6 days acclimatizing, in the Everest region, before climbing it.
The hike to Nangartshang hill is one of a kind, as it gives us a magnificent view of Mt. Makalu (8463 m) and Mt. Ama Dablam. We can enjoy the beautiful sunset from the hill and then return to the village to stroll around and enjoy our stay there. We will stay this night too, in Dingboche.
After 2 nights at Dingboche, we will finally head out to Lobuche. The trek will begin with a gentle climb towards the Pheriche valley. Mountains Tawoch and Cholotse will be greeting us, on our way there.
From Pheriche, we will follow the trail through Thokla Pass. The major point of attraction of Thokla Pass, is the large collection of tombstones and memorials to lost climbers and Sherpas. Another amazing thing we will encounter along the way is, Khumbu glacier. The magnificent view of Khumbu glacier will keep us moving with overwhelming energy and excitement. After walking along the trail, we will finally reach Lobuche. We will be staying the night there.
Today is the day; we will finally be reaching our long-awaited destination – Everest Base Camp. With an early breakfast at Lobuche, we will hit the road and trek to EBC via Gorakshep. This is going to be one of the most rewarding-portion, of our whole journey.
First, we will head out to Gorakshep. At Gorakshep, there is a small settlement where we will be having our lunch for the day. Gorakshep is the last tea-house settlement in this trekking trail. After having lunch at Gorakshep, we will trek to Everest Base Camp.
The trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp, is going to be an exhausting one, as it requires us to pass through the moraine of Khumbu glacier. But, providing the trekkers with a magnificent view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Mahalangur, Mt. Lingtern, Mt. Khumbutse, Mt. Nuptse and others, this is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience. After enjoying the view closely, we will be heading back towards Gorakshep. We will stay the night there.
Day 10 of the journey, marks the day we will be travelling to Kala Patthar, to view the epic sunrise from there. Kala Patthar is regarded as the best vantage point to view sunrise and sunset, and hike will only take us about 3 hours. The best view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku and many more, can be enjoyed during the sunrise. Beautiful sunrays, kissing the mountain tips, is an astounding view that leaves most travelers speechless.
After enjoying the epic sunrise from Kala Patthar, we will then head back to Gorakshep. We will have our lunch at Gorakshep, and then be travelling to Dzongla. From Gorakshep, we will follow the trail, reaching Lobuche. From near the Lobuche Base Camp, we have 2 ways ahead of us; one leading us to Pheriche, and the other reaching Dzongla. It is an up hill climb and will take around 2 hours to reach Dzongla. We will be staying at a lodge there and start our trek early, the next morning.
With an early breakfast at Dzongla, we will be heading out to Thagna, crossing the Cho La pass (5340 m) on the way. Heading out early, gives you an advantage of nice view in the morning, before the unpredictable weather of the afternoon, kicks in.
Today’s trek is a bit stretchy one, but having already trekked to Everest Base Camp, it is not going to be that difficult. Crossing the Cho La pass can be a difficult task, especially if the weather is not on our side. The climb to the top is tough, but the amazing view from there will make up for it. After reaching Thagnak, we will be resting for a night, there.
On day 12 of our journey, we will be heading from Thagna to Gokyo. We will also have to cross, the moraines of Ngozumpa glacier, on the way. The magnificent view of Gokyo lake will leave us dumbfounded when seen upon. We will then traverse through the second Gokyo lake, which is just as beautiful. Just a short-distance from the third Gokyo lake lies the small settlement of Gokyo village where we will be staying the night.
An afternoon sidewalk, to the 5th Gokyo lake – Ngozumpa Tsho, is taken during the afternoon. This is done today, in order to free us some time tomorrow, when we will be trekking to Machhermo.
Today, on day 13 of our trek, we will ascend the Gokyo Ri peak, the sunrise view from where, is astonishing.
After having an early breakfast, we will be climbing the Gokyo Ri peak and enjoy the beautiful sunrise, seen from there. The peak will allow us to see the panoramic view, of the mountains, from all sides. This includes, seeing Mt. Everest, Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Gyachung, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Nuptse, as the sun rays, slowly bring warmth, to these cold mountains.
After watching the sunrise, we will head down to Gokyo village, have our lunch, then head out to Machhermo. The trek from Gokyo lakes to Machhermo will take us about 4 hours. Up on reaching Machhermo, we will be staying the night there.
On day 14 of our journey, we will head from Machhermo to Namche Bazar. This will take us about 07-08 hours of time. We will traverse through Dole and Phortse Tenga, passing through Rhododendron forests, finally reaching Namche Bazar.
The trail descends gently to Dole, and then steeply descends to Phortse Tenga. Through the Rhododendron forest, the path immediately escalates steeply to Mongla Danda. We will also be enjoying, some good views of the peaks, all along the way. From Mongla Danda, we will follow a gentle descend up to Kyanjoma (3500 m), following small ups and downs to the destination – Namche Bazar. We will be spending the night there.
Today’s trek from Namche Bazar to Lukla, will take us about 6 hours. The trail will lead us slowly to Phakding, crossing suspension bridges along the way. We will also walk through pine and Rhododendron forests, and admire its beauty, one last time. We will once again, pass through the confluence of Dudh Koshi river and Bhote Koshi river. And, reach Lukla in the afternoon. Today, we will also say goodbye to our team, guides and the porters; who’d helped us all along the way. We will stay the night in Lukla.
With an early morning breakfast, we will travel from Lukla to Kathmandu via a flight. It will take us about 35 minutes, to reach the capital. After reaching Kathmandu, we will be greeted and received by representatives of Mountain Routes. They will welcome us back, then take us to our respective hotels.
You can rest for a while, after having lunch, then head out to explore the beautiful city of Kathmandu. You can also do some shopping today, as this will be your last night in Nepal. At night, you can go and explore Thamel’s nightlife. A good night’s sleep is all that is left for the day.
The final day of your trip, and today you will be heading back home. We will have you picked up, from your respective hotels, and then take you to the airport. We will share goodbyes today and part our ways. With all the amazing memories and excellent experience, you will be heading back home. Having some part of you moved, in the last 2 weeks-time, you will board your plane, with an amazing story to pass down through generations.
Gokyo Lake trek is more determined and strenuous, physically challenging along with several high passes to cross over than standard EBC trek,so required a certain degree of robustness. It’s a more vigorous long walk ,you can catch sight of the extended southwestern side of Mount Everest from Gokyo ri(17,575 ft, 5,357 m) paying back for your effort by nature.
We are elevating at almost 5000m above sea level,so one should be in very sound health and fit to hike at high altitudes and should accustomed themself for vigorous walk about 7-9 hours per day . previous trekking practice in high altitude is required, you should start hiking practice and workout for at least two months.
There are rest days in the journey and acclimatization is very much essential to make your body familiar with the existing environment. The variation of climatic condition and altitude might lead to altitude sickness. Namche Bazaar at 3440 m will be the perfect destination for acclimatization, later on to familiarize more with the existing environment as we move ahead we have to take one more rest day at around 4800m.
“As you move higher you have to comfort yourself in a more natural way.” Basically, we start our journey from Lukla and reach different stops. Every station you go, you gotta experience a similar kind of accommodation facilities with a wide range of variation in price. Basically, it’s called a tea house and as you start to elevate there are no convenient means to carry raw material so even if you are planning to spend your money extravagantly or pay thousand of dollar bills, we apologies from our end. You will be inside the tea house in the evenings, nights and every morning when the room temperatures will not be less than 5 degree Celsius. How about having freshly brewed coffee at the world highest bakery cafe. Gokyo offers a beautiful inn service with an extensive food menu.
On cold December nights, the temperature can fall up to -25 degree celsius. During the Autumn season, the temperature can rise up to 20 degree celsius on warm sunny days.
