Tharpu Chuli, known by the name of Tent Peak is located in the Western region of Nepal. It is located at 5663 meters of altitude, in between Annapurna range of mountains. You will get the best mountain experience – being with popular mountains like Machhapuchre, Annapurna, Kiunchuli, etc.
Located in Gandaki zone, it is part of the ridgeline joined towards the south with Glacier Dome. Jimmy Roberts was the one who brought it into highlight back in 1956 while he was exploring the area during the same year for the 1957 British Machhapuchre Expedition.
We get to explore popular places of Nepal in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Pokhara during this trek. Apart, there are amazing places like Ghandruk, Deurali, Machhapuchre Base Camp, High Camp apart from major Tent Peak.

Spring and Autumn are regarded as the best time for Tharpu Chuli Climbing. The time between March and May or October and November would be perfect. One of our teammates will be waiting to receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport. So, once you drop down to the airport, our team member will take you to star hotel in Kathmandu and let you get fresh and overcome through your jet lag.
Once you are done with your refreshment, we can take a short trip around and observe the evening life of Thamel. During the evening, a brief introduction about Tharpu Chuli, also known as Tent Peak Climbing will be explained. We get ourselves ready for the trip and pack our luggage accordingly. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Having our breakfast, we depart from Kathmandu and head towards Pokhara. Overcoming the crazy traffic jam of Kathmandu, our driver will take you towards the Lake City of Nepal. You get to see amazing views of the river, hills, and mountains on the way.
Having our lunch on the way itself, we first check into a hotel and get a fresh shower. Taking rest, we then take a short walk around Lake Side of Pokhara. It is okay to opt for boating in Phewa Lake too. Overnight in Pokhara.
On this day of Tharpu Chuli adventure, we explore Pokhara. Having our breakfast we travel around Davis Fall at first. This is an amazing waterfall to get ourselves pleasured. Just opposite to Davis Fall, there is Gupteswor Cave to be around.
Having our lunch we head towards Bat Cave and Mahendra Cave. These are natural caves that you get to explore. We then head towards Lake Side, and relax observing the evening view of the lake. Overnight at Pokhara.
It will take around an hour for us to reach Naya Pul. We start our Tharpu Chuli expedition reaching Naya Pul. We first walk over flat land with few ups and downs and then reach Birethanti for lunch. The trek from Birethanti will be uphill.
On the way we get to enjoy natural rivers, waterfalls and beautiful villages. Crossing Khumbu Khola, we finally reach Ghandruk from where we get to see an amazing view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli mountain and Machapuchhre mountain. Overnight at the hotel of Ghandruk.
We start our trek climbing to Ghandrukkot, and then we walk steeply towards Kimron Khola. Taking the next steep uphill trail from Kimron Khola, we walk for around an hour over the easy trail and then take next steep climb up to Chhomrong.
Once we reach the top after round 6 hours of trek, we then get to see amazing views of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South around. Chhomrong is an amazing village located on the lap of Annapurna massive. Overnight will be spent at Chhomrong.
As we already have entered into the Tharpu Chuli expedition, our Tent Peak expedition will get wild gradually. This day we trek for around 6 hours. We cross a suspension bridge over Chhomrong Khola and then reach Sinuwa at first.
Our path from Sinuwa will be flat trail and then we pass through thick rhododendron forest till Khuldighar. After that, we descend through steep stone steps into lush bamboo and rhododendron forests and then finally reach Dobhan. Overnight will be spent in Dobhan.
After reaching Dobhan, we start walking through the trail alongside Modi Khola. We first pass through Himalaya Hotel and then Hinku Cave before reaching Deurali. Today will be a real short trip as we will walk only around one and a half hours through a small trail. This would be prone to avalanche.
We get to acclimatize to high altitude and get set for the next day’s trip. Upon reaching Deurali we take enough rest and let our body acclimatize around. Overnight at Deurali.
This would be a memorable day during the Tharpu Chuli Peak Climbing expedition. We first walk for around half an hour and reach into the place between the river bed surrounded by giant snow-covered mountains. Our hiking trail towards Machhapuchre Base Camp would be stressful, but amazing views would be worth it.
Although we walk for around 4 hours this day, we get tired as e start gaining altitude. We get to enjoy Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Mt. Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and Machhapuchre from here. Overnight at cool weather in Machhapuchre Base Camp.
This day we set aside to acclimatize ourselves, which is essential during trek. Our team member will explain what you can look around in Tharpu Chuli Peak, and you will get basic training about climbing techniques. You will learn to use tools like a climbing boot, harness, jumar, ice axe, ropes, etc.
After training we can spend time walking around as short hikes, or can rest in our place itself. Overnight will be spent in Machhapuchre Base Camp, at an altitude of 3700 meters
This would be stress filled and challenging day during Tharpu Chuli Trekking. We initially move ahead over the trail through Modi Khola. After walking for some time, we observe South Annapurna Glacier towards our right thereby.
We leave the trail from the glacier that will lead us up towards the base camp of Annapurna South and rather head straight towards the bridge, and then cross the bridge. Continuing further, we finally make it to Cave Camp – after around 5 to 6 hours of trek. Overnight in Cave Camp at an altitude of 4250 meters.
Having our breakfast, we first head towards uphill towards Tharpu Chuli (Tent Peak). We must use our training skills of rope and helmet around. Initially we climb towards 50 to 60-degree steep path for almost 2-3 hours and then walk for glacier around.
Once we reach high camp, we observe panoramic views of Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna, Machhapuchre, etc. So, once we reach high camp, we get to enjoy this beautiful view around. We reach the altitude up to 5200 meters this day at High Camp, and overnight will be spent at High Camp itself.
An important mission of Tent Peak trekking is to reach the summit. So, this day is crucial in the Tharpu Chuli expedition. This day, we begin up our journey towards the summit waking up early in the morning so that we can reach our destination in time.
We first walk on wall rock for around a couple of hours and then we walk for flat snow for the next hour. Then, we climb over a steep slope of 70 degrees and then walk over the flat trail for around half an hour till we reach the summit of Tharpu Chuli. We then climb over fixed ropes to reach the summit. Spending some time at the summit, we return through the same route until we make it to high camp. Overnight in High Camp.
Mountains have unpredictable weather. And hence weight not know how will weather treat us. So, it’s wise to keep a spare day just in case if we could not make it to summit the previous day. Or, even if we did, we can stay at the base camp with enough rest that our body would require.
You can read books, or watch movies if you have your charged laptop from the base camp itself. A coffee with it, and a sip of it right below the mountain would be a different experience anyway.
We start this day departing from High Camp of Tent peak. We first follow the trail until we descend towards Machhapuchre Base Camp. This would be returning of trail that we came through.
Although this would be 4 to 5 hours of trek, the tiredness of the previous day would matter highly. Hence, we take long rest upon reaching our destination – Machhapuchre Base Camp. Overnight there itself.
We depart from the base camp after breakfast setting up a journey for the next 6 to 7 hours. So, we descend from the same trail that we used for coming up to Bamboo enjoying views of waterfalls and passes. We walk further through a few ups and downs observing mesmerizing views of mountain ranges and finally make it to Bamboo – our overnight destination at an altitude of 2310 meters.
After having breakfast we set this new day of Tharpu Chuli Trek making destination towards Jhinu Dada. We depart from Bamboo ascending towards Kuldi Ghar. We then reach Sinuwa following a sharp trail observing amazing mountain filled landscapes.
We then follow the stone that steps and lead towards Lower Chomrong. After a while we trek uphill ascending over a thousand stone steps which will take us towards Upper Chomrong. Reaching Chomrong, we then follow the trail downhill towards Jhinu Danda. Overnight in Jhinu Danda.
Having our breakfast, we get set for our last day of the trek. We continue our trail and walk on the trail nearby Modi Khola. Having lunch at Kyumi village, we then trek to Syauli Bazar and then head down towards Birethanti. We then trek for the next hour and then finally make it to Naya Pul.
The trekking journey finally ends. We then drive for the next one hour and reach Pokhara. Overnight at Pokhara.
Having our breakfast, we then head towards Kathmandu through the same route we came. On the way we can spend some time heading towards Bandipur including lunch. We pass through places like Abu Khaireni, Muglin, Malekhu, Naubise and reach Kathmandu. Overnight at Kathmandu.
Visiting Nepal, and without even visiting places around in Kathmandu would not be fair. We, therefore, set this day to visit places of Kathmandu’s neighbor – Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. They are amazing places enlisted under UNESCO’s world heritage site, and you will love it. Overnight at the hotel of Kathmandu.
We will try our best to manage time to visit Pashupatinath, the holy place of Hindu this day. Overnight at Kathmandu’s hotel.
Gathering all the memories and adventure, we then set to depart. Our team member of AirNet Travel will bid you farewell from Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.

Our standard itinerary is of 20 days however our itinerary could be changed at your convivence. From base camp to the summit it will take around 7 hours.
Well, it depends on the itinerary some days we have to trek for 5 hours and some days for 8 hours. From Base camp to summit we have to walk for 7 hours. On average we will be walking from 6 to 8 hours per day.
Although Tharpu Chuli Peak is just 5,500m high. Summiting Tharpu Chuli is a strenuous climb. The difficulty may also depend upon ones own current physical and mental condition As well as experiences. Sometimes the weather condition and the route may also make this expedition more challenging. However, Tharpu Chuli is not as difficult as other climbing peaks of Annapurna sanctuary.
If you are an experienced climber who has a certain level of mountaineering skills then you can continue with your usual training. But if you are new to climbing then you might need to do some training. You need to add some more sets of exercise if you have been doing exercise regularly. You should start your training for one month before climbing. This expedition requires a hike of 6 to 7 hours in a rugged and rocky terrain covered with snows. You can start your training with 5 km of running at a slow pace for 7 days and then slightly increase the pace and distance Then you can add some weights to your backpack like 5 to 6 kilos and increase the distance to 10 km. If there are hills near your home town then go hiking for 2 3 days a week with 8 to 10 kilos of a backpack which will build your endurance and strength. Cycling uphill is also a good idea. Never underestimate the mountains you will be climbing in high altitudes with a minimum of 10 kgs of bag pack in a low level of oxygen. You can also do aerobics and breathing exercises which will make your core and lungs strong. Focus on increasing endurance, stamina, and strength You need to have a strong commitment for this peak climbing with no Give UP Attitude.
Having a mountaineering skill is always beneficial for peak expedition however you don’t exactly need mountaineering courses as mountaineering courses are highly expensive and is specially designed for mountaineers. Mountaineering courses will take long time to complete. You need to fully commit for this expedition once you arrive kathmandu our guides will teach you the basic skill required for climbing and make you familiar with the gears and equipment’s. So, don’t worry about these skills you will learn it in no time.

The accommodation is a simple tea house, lodge and tented camps. We cannot provide luxurious accommodations as it is a rural area and getting the supplies is very difficult. The tea houses provide the basic facility of Warm beds, Foods, Hot shower, Attached bathroom and WIFI. And in the tented camps, our guides will arrange all the supplies and make you feel like you are sleeping inside your own home.
Autumn and Spring are the best seasons for climbing Any peaks in Nepal. Autumn Season (September, October & November) and Spring Season (March, April & May) are the perfect seasons for Tharpu Chuli. We do not recommend climbing peaks in winter and monsoon season as the percentage of Risk is High.

As climbers will be spending long hours camping and climbing there is a chance that they may feel sick during their expedition. The sickness can occur from various causes like quick changes in weather, environment, Foods, Water, Accidents and altitude. We will provide the basic techniques which you should strictly follow in order to prevent this sickness. If you do not experience some relief from the first aid treatment and the sickness worsens, our guide will arrange for the helicopter rescue immediately
